Maroon MetallicExterior
This custom 1950s classic features a bold two-tone design, with a Maroon Metallic body accented by a dark red base and topped with a contrasting tan roof. The front of the car is adorned with old-school flames that stretch across the hood and fenders, giving it an iconic “Streets of Fire” vibe. The side profile reveals car-length spear trim, paired with Lakewood side pipes, adding to its custom appeal. Both bumpers display a patina that enhances the “bad boy” look, with metal throughout the car showing a mix of polished finish and aged patina. The 15-inch wheels are covered with moon hubcaps, and the use of 1955-1956 Mercury station wagon taillights adds a fantastic custom touch. As a driver, the paint shows imperfections, including scuffs, scratches, runs, bubbling, and the aforementioned aging metal, which includes some rust, dings, and scratches.
Interior
The interior features a minimalist design, with a single pane of maroon vinyl forming the door panels, complemented by a patina-painted header. The split bench front seats are covered in tan cloth inserts framed by maroon vinyl, showing decent condition, while the rear bench with the same pattern appears largely untouched. The bright red steering wheel, fitted with a silver half-horn ring, leads to a custom dashboard, featuring an unusual collection of gauges. In addition to the typical arched speedometer, there are two dials for boost/vacuum, and a combined dial for fuel, oil, water, amps, and volts. A clock and tachometer are housed in larger circles, with all bezels in varying shades of red. The transmission hump is topped with a stout little shifter, and the floor is covered in red looped carpet with red vinyl footwell walls. The white headliner is a pillowy, perforated vinyl assembly, loosely fitted. In the trunk, a somewhat tattered plaid mat sits under the fuel cell, with the trunk lid padding painted red and showing signs of cracking from age.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, you’ll find a consignor-stated 292ci Y-block V8, fueled by a 2-barrel carburetor and paired with a Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission. Power is sent to the Ford 9″ rear. The front brakes have been upgraded to disc brakes, while the rear still uses non-power-assisted drum brakes.
Undercarriage
The underside of the car shows driver-quality patina, overspray, and surface rust. There is a drop of oil on the pan and some residual oil on the rear differential, possibly from the pinion seal. The rest of the underside is clean and dry, with bright yellow traction bars adding a pop of color. Dual exhaust flows from the headers into Raptor mufflers, exiting out the back via tailpipes with chrome deflectors. The side pipes are showy but not functional. The front suspension utilizes coil springs, while the rear is supported by leaf springs, with traction bars attached.
Drive-Ability
This car delivers the perfect balance of old-school customization and classic performance. It has adequate power, sounding great through the headers and exhaust. The ride is smooth, and visibility is excellent thanks to the shoebox-shaped greenhouse design. However, there are a few items to note: the clock is inoperable, the odometer isn’t working, and the brake lights do not illuminate. While Classic Auto Mall confirms these functions were working during our test drive, we cannot guarantee that they will be operational at the time of purchase.
