This 1962 Jaguar XKE Series 1 OTS Roadster has been cherished by three long-term owners and is in exceptional condition. While it has never undergone a complete restoration, it has been carefully restored as needed over the years to maintain its originality and performance.
The car features its matching numbers 3.8-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, mated to a 4-speed manual transmission, and boasts a vibrant Carmen Red exterior with a black leather interior. This E-Type is an ideal candidate for regional shows and tours.
Originally built by the factory on July 13, 1962, and dispatched to the New York distributor on August 8, 1962, this Jaguar remained with its first owner for 23 years. In 1985, it was acquired by Dell Lichtenburg in Bozeman, MT, who owned the car for six years. During his ownership, he replaced the black Haartz cloth convertible top. In 1992, Marvin Brown from Billings, MT, purchased the car, adding only about 50 miles over the first 10 years. To preserve the car’s condition, Mr. Brown placed it on blocks in an air-conditioned garage, where it remained stored for the next 20 years.
In 2022, the car was fully recommissioned, professionally detailed, and is now in excellent running and driving condition. It is accompanied by a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, confirming its original Carmen Red color and numbers-matching status.
Exterior:
The Carmen Red paint is the car’s original factory color and is in stunning condition, with excellent shine and luster. The chrome and stainless-steel trim are also in beautiful shape. The black Haartz cloth convertible top is in excellent condition, and a matching black canvas convertible top boot is included. The chrome-plated knock-off wire wheels, wrapped in Riken Radial tires, are in excellent condition.
Interior:
The interior is finished in black leather with black wool carpeting, both of which remain in excellent condition. The leather is soft and supple, with minimal wear on the driver’s side bolster and piping. The dashboard is in great condition, and the teak steering wheel is well-maintained. The interior is well-suited for touring or regional shows.
Engine and Performance:
This Jaguar is powered by its original, numbers-matching 3.8-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with a trio of Weber carburetors, producing 255hp. The engine is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission with independent rear suspension, allowing for top speeds approaching 150 mph. The engine compartment is detailed and shows well, with the chassis and engine having been cleaned and painted over the years. The car performs exceptionally, with a quiet and powerful engine, tight handling, and an overall excellent driving experience.
