Cameo IvoryExterior
This 1965 Pontiac LeMans strikes a perfect balance of aggressive charm and understated elegance, dressed in Cameo Ivory paint that beautifully complements the chrome elements. The front bumper, headlight bezels, grille trim, and the striking striated rear panel seamlessly blend with the overall design, with the rear bumper elegantly contoured to the rear shape and reverse lights subtly embedded. The forward-leaning fenders house stacked headlights, and decorative gill-like trim is affixed to the front quarter panels. The 17-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels with slightly staggered Michelin tires (with a 2022 date code) add a fantastic 5-spoke flair to the profile. The factory GTO hood, complete with the iconic twin hood scoops, further enhances the car’s muscle car credentials. The white canvas top shows some discoloration, with a few tears, but the large plastic rear window is fully intact. Notable paint imperfections include one chip and a few small inclusions.
Interior
Stepping inside, it’s refreshing to see a non-black interior. The blue door panels feature textured, lined vinyl squares and are in clean condition, with carpeted lower sections typical of the 1965 models. The front low-back bucket seats are upholstered in blue vinyl with diagonal lines, also in great condition, and feature an embossed Pontiac arrowhead on the seatbacks. The rear bench mirrors the same attractive design, with seat belts for three and ashtrays for two. The Grant wood steering wheel, showing some patina, fronts a clean dash with Dakota VHX gauges, which, though almost stock in appearance, are backlit in blue with digital readouts. In the center, you’ll find vent controls and a Retrosound AM/FM radio within easy reach of both front occupants. The “hold on” handle in front of the passenger shows some use, while a metal shifter with patina resides in the center console. The blue loop carpet is in good condition, complete with fitted rubber mats, and the trunk is clean with a pair of speakers.
Drivetrain
Pop the GTO hood, and you’ll discover the heart of this resto-mod: a 5.3-liter LM7 V8 powered by an Affordable Fuel Injection stand-alone system, featuring Holley fuel rails and intake. The engine bay is neat and ready to impress. A 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission sends power to a 10-bolt rear axle with 3.73 Yukon gears and an Eaton Positraction unit. For modern performance, power disc brakes are installed on all four corners.
Undercarriage
Underneath, the car is clean and dry, showing only surface rust on a few clamps, with no fluid leaks. The dual exhaust system begins with headers and flows through a pair of FlowMaster mufflers before exiting discreetly just before the rear bumper. The front features coil springs, while the rear boasts a 4-link setup with coil springs and Moog components. The car is equipped with KYB shocks in front and AC Delco air shocks in the back, ensuring that the tires won’t scrape when carrying a load, whether it’s golf clubs or passengers.
Drive-Ability
This LeMans offers a perfect blend of classic ’60s lines and modern performance. The fuel-injected V8 fires up instantly, delivering a healthy growl as we cruise through our usual test route. The throttle response is sharp, and the disc brakes provide ample stopping power. Modern components such as the fuel injection and brakes work flawlessly, while traditional functions like lights and turn signals also operate as they should. Although Classic Auto Mall confirms these functions were working at the time of the test drive, we cannot guarantee they will be functional at the time of purchase.
