Orange1970 Dodge Challenger R/T – Numbers Matching, Original Paint, Restored with Build Sheet Specs
This is the real deal: a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T with its original, numbers-matching drivetrain and factory Dark Burnt Orange paint. I purchased this unrestored from (what I believe to be) the original owner in Riverside, where it had been garage-kept and parked since 1983.
My goal with the restoration was to preserve as much originality as possible, guided by two original build sheets found in the car. While they’re fragile, all the data was usable—and the car was restored to match.
Exterior
Original Dark Burnt Orange factory paint from 1970, with the exception of the passenger quarter panel below the stripe, which was previously repainted with lower-quality paint.
Engine compartment repainted before reinstalling the motor.
Paint restored using a clay bar and buffing process about a year ago—still shines beautifully.
Restored per build sheet: White stripe and white headliner installed.
Stripe on the passenger door was originally painted on, so the new stripe didn’t adhere perfectly—but it’s present.
Body has various dings and dents from the original owner, including on corners and the driver door.
Bumpers, grille, and hardware are original. Emblems and ornaments have been replaced.
Interior
White and black color combo with wood trim, restored to build sheet specs.
New upholstery on front and rear seats, new carpet, headliner, and front door panels.
Other interior components cleaned, painted, and color-matched.
Seatbelts replaced.
Original dash pad is still installed but cracked—a dash cover has been added.
Originally equipped with Rallye-style gauges, now upgraded to Dakota Digital (original gauges included).
Original radio still present but not connected.
Bluetooth amplifier installed in trunk, wired to two 6x9s—connect your phone for music.
Drivetrain
Original numbers-matching 383 engine
Original numbers-matching 4-speed transmission with pistol grip
Original Sure Grip 8¾ rear end
All major drivetrain components have been rebuilt.
Engine has a medium cam upgrade, retains stock top end, and runs GREAT.
Transmission shifts like new; new 3-1 clutch kit installed.
All original transmission linkage is intact, including reverse lockout.
Upgraded to a 700 CFM Edelbrock carb—original Holley 4-barrel from 1970 included.
Additional upgrades: new wiring harness, electric fan, and electronic ignition
Replaced components include radiator, coil, and alternator, among others.
Undercarriage & Miscellaneous
New mufflers, gas tank, shocks, suspension parts, brakes, wheel cylinders, and various other small parts.
Floor pan was solid—no replacement needed.
Underside and trunk pan are coated in Rhino liner (trunk pan was replaced).
Odometer shows 8,534 miles—likely rolled over once.
Only about 100 miles driven since restoration.
