Gold1972 Chevrolet Camaro SS – Mojave Gold, 402ci Big Block, EFI
Step back into the muscle car era with this stunning 1972 Chevrolet Camaro SS, finished in the iconic Mojave Gold. This car is a true representation of muscle and performance, featuring aggressive styling, a powerful 402ci engine, and the legendary Muncie M22 4-speed manual transmission. With its clean lines, aggressive stance, and classic features, this Camaro is sure to turn heads wherever it goes.
The exterior features a cowl hood, a solid front bumper, and a coarser SS grille emblem that defines the 1972 model year. A three-piece sharply angled rear spoiler and dual exhaust with straight tailpipes under the rear valance are standard on the SS, making it as functional as it is stylish. The contrasting black rear fascia around the quad taillights and license plate cutout further accentuates the car’s bold design. The body is sleek and uninterrupted by side moldings, with an SS396 fender badge proudly displayed. The 15-inch SS Sport wheels, wrapped in staggered tires, give this muscle car an extra muscular stance. The paint is in great condition, though there are some small areas of bondo repair and a few paint drips. The panel gaps are mostly good, with a few areas showing slight imperfections.
Interior: Comfort and Classic Design
The black interior is in excellent condition, starting with clean and unmarred plastic and vinyl door panels, which feature an armrest between two storage pockets. The tall sport bucket seats, designed with a stitch pattern and buttons, show no signs of wear and offer firm support. The rear 2+2 seats mirror the pattern and condition of the front buckets. The standard steering wheel with the SS emblem leads to a dashboard featuring a Holley Sniper EFI screen, with the six standard gauges, including a tachometer, clearly visible in a textured plastic panel. Climate controls are located to the left, showing a bit of patina, while the center of the dash houses a period-correct AM radio. The center console houses the shifter and provides additional storage space between the seats. Black loop carpet covers the floor, protected by SS carpeted mats, and the glossy vinyl headliner is in fine condition. The trunk is lined with a plaid vinyl mat, adding a nice touch to the interior.
Drivetrain: Big Block Power and Performance
Under the hood, you’ll find a clean and powerful 402ci motor, date-coded to 1971, and topped with a Holley Sniper EFI system that ensures smooth and reliable fuel delivery. The engine is paired with a 1970 vintage Muncie M22 4-speed manual transmission, sending power to the rear 10-bolt axle with 2.56 gears. Power brakes with disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear provide solid stopping power, while the dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers ensures this muscle car sounds as good as it performs.
Undercarriage: Clean and Ready for Action
The undercarriage is in good, driver-quality condition with only some surface rust on the driveshaft, headers, and other parts. There’s no dirt buildup, and no oil leaks are visible, aside from some residual oil on the oil pan. The suspension features coil springs in the front and mono leaf springs with CalTrac bars in the rear, ensuring a smooth and stable ride. The dual exhaust system exits out the back with a menacing tone, ready to roar to life.
Drive-Ability: Ready to Take You for a Ride
This 1972 Camaro SS fires up easily with the EFI system, and the 402ci engine roars to life with a satisfying growl. The ride is firm, responsive, and comfortable, with plenty of power on tap. While most functions work as intended, there are a few issues to note: the horn, reverse lights, speedometer, and odometer are not currently functioning. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these features were working during the test drive, we cannot guarantee their operation at the time of your purchase.
